The South African Lacrosse Project has invested in the education of our South African Lacrosse Project camp participants and orphans and vulnerable children from the Waterberg Welfare Society (WWS) since our inception. SALP sponsored a recent college graduate, Kwasi Ansu, to spend 6 months at the WWS setting up an after-school Homework Club. We have sponsored two South African teachers for three years to teach English using tablets, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Harvey Clapp, Footsteps2Brilliance, The Bernstein Family Foundation, the McJunkin family, Liz Ricketts and Branson Skinner.
SALP’s efforts to improve literacy start with very young children and our tablet project. We have sent over more than 20 tablets loaded with educational apps. As a result of a visit by Ron and Helen Glick, we have introduced Sesame Street to the children.
We have sponsored four students for university programs and have covered the tuition and fees for high school for numerous kids. We are very proud of the kids who have now graduated from university programs and are out in the working world.
