Volunteer
The South African Lacrosse Project would love to have you volunteer with us.
There are many opportunities to get involved – you can host a fundraiser (we have lots of ideas for you, just let us know!), collect equipment (we especially need equipment in small sizes), and we have opportunities to volunteer at our annual lacrosse camps in South Africa.
You are not too young or old to get involved!
- A young neighbor took up a penny collection for us at her school, and raised $25.
- Tori Mannes of Dallas and her daughter, Rachel, have challenged every member of the Texas men’s and women’s lacrosse teams to sponsor a child for camp for $50.
- YOLO Sportswear has donated twelve long sleeve t-shirts and twelve pairs of sweats that they had made for the 2009 Women’s Division National Tournament.
- Students at the Park School and at Roland Park Country School in Baltimore donated lacrosse sticks.
- Mackenzie Melfa and her friend decided they didn’t need anything for Christmas this past year and made a donation to the lacrosse project instead.
- A donation to the lacrosse project was made recently to honor Jack Halpert’s Bar Mitzvah.
- Sports Her Way has supported us with equipment donations.
- Melissa Coyne wrote the terrific article that was in Lacrosse Magazine.
- This wonderful website is a result of the generosity of Agency of Record in Annapolis.
The list goes on and on, but you get the idea.
The easiest way to get in touch with us is through the “Contact” section of this website (click here if you are outside of the USA), but you are also welcome to call or write. We look forward to hearing from you. Let us post your volunteer efforts here on our site!
The Waterberg Literacy Project is a branch of The South African Lacrosse Project that is dedicated to the education of the children in the Waterberg. Although schools are public, many children cannot afford it because they must pay for tuition and uniforms.
Tuition costs are:
- Elementary School: $7
- Middle School: $50
- High School: $100
Last year, Towson High School's Honor Society raised enough money to send 16 high school age children to school. If you would like to sponsor a child's tuition, please donate through Paypal or write a check to The South African Lacrosse Project and write "Waterberg Literacy Project" in the memo.
